National Capital Parks-East will hold a Lotus Asian Cultural Festival on Saturday, July 19, 2008. That week will be a peek time of blooming. If you want to take pictures, should come early in the morning because Lotus flowers close when weather gets above 89 or 90 degrees, and don’t open again until the next morning.
Join us for a late-summer happy hour. We are celebrating our 1 year anniversary as an organization. I hope to see everyone there. We have grown substantially in the past year and have welcomed many new members into the group. I have made dozens of new friends and professional contacts and hope to continue meeting more.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the Charity Volleyball Tournament and Picnic held on June 1. We did well for a team that was assembled at the last second and had no practices. All proceeds went to a charity that helps orphans and disabled children of Vietnam.
Our first big event of the summer was a huge success. Over 40 people came to the showing of "Three Seasons" followed by a rooftop BBQ at one of the nicest condos in DC. Although the BBQ was interrupted by a thunderstorm, we managed to get all the food cooked and enjoyed being outdoors. The view from the rooftop was magnificent.
Have you made an effort to drive less in response to high gas prices?
Our next co-sponored happy hour will be at Ultrabar.
Spread the word, mix and mingle with new and familiar faces, have some fun, and help support a good cause!? suggested $5 donation. We'll be benefiting GILAS, a Filipino youth NGO aiming to promote information literacy by helping to provide Internet access, training, and maintenance to high schools in the Philippines. Please note 80% of proceeds will go to the MVMA's GAPS program, the remaining 20% will go to the 20s & 30s Asian group to cover meetup fees and expenses.
Every year it's a blast, just camping out on the Mall from noon to night. Here in Washington, it's extra special because it's an all day affair to remember. There are lots of activities going on...from outdoor concerts, arts and crafts fairs, visiting museums, kite flying, frisbee, volleyball, to just lounging on the grass playing cards and waiting for the fireworks display over the DC skies.
Thanks to everyone who came out for Poker Night III. Congratulations to the winners!!!

Vietnamese-Americans Celebrating Freedom needs volunteers! A project of the Vietamese Community of Metropolitan DC, we are participating in America's Independance Day Parade again for the 17th consecutive year. The parade takes place on July 4th in downtown DC and is watched by over 400,000 people every year! We're proud to be one of the 75 groups chosen to participate nationally.
Thanks for coming out to the co-sponsored happy hour at Modern to support the Maryland Vietnamese Mutual Association. Enjoy the pictures.
Every September, VCSMW along with local groups in the area puts together what is widely known as the best children's festival in town, the annual Moon Festival, or Tet Trung Thu.
