Vietnamese Book Club

We meet over coffee every 2 months or so to discuss books written by or about the Vietnamese community. We explore the author's writing style, message, and effectiveness within the context of the genre and setting.

Photos from Book Club Meeting with Lan Cao

The Vietnamese Book Club would like to thank Lan Cao for taking time out from her busy schedule to meet with us and answer our questions. Her insight, experiences, and direction allowed us to gain a better understanding of her novel Monkey Bridge. As a representative voice and a leader of the Vietnamese American community, Lan Cao's accomplishments continue to be an inspiration.

Book Club: The Book of Salt by Monique Truong

When: March 5, 2008

Where: Teaism at Penn Quarter (Archives-Navy metro at corner of 8th and D St)

It's still winter, and it's still insanely cold! So let's get together again for warm drinks with good friends to talk about our next book selection, The Book of Salt. It is a story of Binh, a Vietnamese chef, who ends up in the Paris home of Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas. We will discuss up to page 118 for the meeting and the rest of the book in April.
